about

I wrote this song in Maine in the summertime, on the front porch of an old cabin that sat at the head of a beautiful harbor. The light up north is so strikingly golden, and has a way of making the veil seem thin. Sometimes people die too young and we are left to grapple with acceptance…but not without shaking our fist at the moon, the loon, whatever gods we pray to, and asking why first.

lyrics

Why do the good ones go too soon
Why do the good ones go too soon, too soon

At the head of the harbor, I hear a lonesome loon
Long summer moon

Cryin’ in the night, and we can’t trade it
No matter how we want it
Can’t reverse it, try to get through the worst of it

Why do all the good ones go too soon
Why do all the good ones go too soon

And all that we’re left with is the loon
The lonesome loon

Callin’ in the night, And there might be a time
That’ll come, maybe even soon
Where it’ll be alright
But it’ll never be the same
And I’ll never speak your name
To your face again
