Swings 04:26
In my dreams on the swings with you The golden light makes me feel alright like I can stand it But I can’t stand it I miss you so, I miss you so and I don’t wanna go on The more time passes / The less I feel you / Can you feel me now? Callin' out your name in the night And I know from the outside it doesn’t seem that bad I’m still singin’ in the rain / But now it’s wild and people are afraid I’m hangin' on by the moon and the stars I miss you so / I miss you so / and I don’t wanna go on

You say you’re in it for the long game And that you like to move real slow But I can’t unsee / And I know what I know Babe you know it ain’t no lie You know I’d lay down and die Of happiness If you say you’d stick around / If you say you’d stick around But I don’t wanna be your rebound / I don’t wanna be your soothin’ balm I don’t wanna be your band-aid / For everything that went wrong So tell me are you shootin’ straight / When you’re linin’ up your aim And when you look into my eyes / Are you just playin’ games? You say it feels like things are movin’ too fast You don’t think that you can keep up with that Think what I’m sensin’ here / Is you know you can’t make it last Honey who broke your heart? A steel trap around your heart A beautiful mess Still I want you around / I want you around But I don’t wanna be your rebound / I don’t wanna be your soothin’ balm I don’t wanna be your band-aid / For everything that went wrong So tell me are you shootin’ straight / When you’re linin’ up your aim And when you look into my eyes / Are you just playin’ games? And when you look into my eyes / Are you just playin’ games?

Loon 03:32
Why do the good ones go too soon Why do the good ones go too soon, too soon At the head of the harbor, I hear a lonesome loon Long summer moon Cryin’ in the night, and we can’t trade it No matter how we want it Can’t reverse it, try to get through the worst of it Why do all the good ones go too soon Why do all the good ones go too soon And all that we’re left with is the loon The lonesome loon Callin’ in the night, And there might be a time That’ll come, maybe even soon Where it’ll be alright But it’ll never be the same And I’ll never speak your name To your face again

Flowers 04:07
She loves the flowers and the birds She loves the holy trees, the sacred herbs And she is rising up in song So raise your voice and sing along Cause we are here today And that is all that we can really say Not livin’ for tomorrow Not stuck in yesterday She loves the ocean and the stars She loves the endless waves, cries of the gulls And she is dancing along To every note until she falls Cause we are here today And that is all that we can really say Not livin’ for tomorrow Not stuck in yesterday She loves the place that she calls home She loves the people there, the bells that tone Soaks up the light and prays Thank you sun for every ray Cause we are here today And that is all that we can really say Not livin’ for tomorrow Not stuck in yesterday Not stuck in yesterday She loves the flowers and the birds

When I feel it start to thaw / Slow creaking in the ice Feeling pretty raw / Far away look in my eye Trees are being brave now / Putting out their leaves of green Gardens are growing / Biggest flowers you've ever seen We don't have to try so hard / Let's take it easy River's flowing / Oh so slowly River's flowing Things are finally blooming / Under layers off You're singing me a song / I let go my lingering thoughts So let's stay out on the back porch / Twilight's fallin' now Burning into ashes / As we watch the night fall down We don't have to try so hard / Let's take it easy River's flowing / Oh so slowly River's flowing River's flowing oh so slowly

Ooh baby, do you wanna be my lady Ooh maybe, just kiss me now Then we’ll figure it out This feelin’ we got, I say we give it a shot When our eyes meet, do you feel the heat Come on over let me pull you close ‘Cause you’re lookin’ real good Want you in my neighborhood Ooh baby, do you wanna be my lady Ooh maybe, just kiss me now Then we’ll figure it out Hey you, you’re lookin’ mighty fine What do you say, do you wanna be mine? I could take you high, if you wanna go Just gimme the word Just you let me know Ooh baby Ooh baby Ooh baby Ooh

Sail Me Away 04:08
Sail me away out to the sea off to a distant shore Sail me away far from my home because my love isn’t there anymore Sail me away out on a boat let’s ride on the wings of a breeze Let my worries be taken away by the drift of the open sea And oh if the wind still blows out across the cold ragin’ sea Then send some sweet thoughts to my true love The one that’s my new love to be I’ll build a new house from pebbles and stones Watch the sun come and go Down by the shore birds will sing And flowers and food will grow Sail me away out to the sea off to a distant shore Sail me away far from my home because my love isn’t there anymore So sail me away once more

Ohio 03:03
Grey Ohio clouds / That’s what I remember Mirrored in your eyes / Clear and cold in September Grey Ohio sky / I didn’t wanna look at you Cause I knew I was hurtin’ you / Knew I was hurtin’ you Ooh Come here by my side / I will hold you close while you cry I see now where you were comin’ from / Sorry I had to run away Crimson Crimson sky at night / Starin’ hard out the window Moon flames in your eyes / Marigolds couldn’t make it right Red Ohio sky / Red Ohio sky Red Ohio sky Come here by my side / I will hold you close while you cry I see now where you were comin’ from / Sorry I had to run away

I pour a good cup of coffee and you’re right there next to me Small desert town, clear blue sky Oh I know I should be grateful, just to be alive But I’m feelin’ a desperate kind of sorrow and anger Sometimes it feels like the universe got it wrong Oh I know I should be grateful, for times gone by Trembling leaves of aspen shimmer in the wind Golden Highway, Golden Highway Remembering you Not a sound for miles, just the smell of sage Coyote’s in the bush, mischief in his eye So I dream myself awake, mmm… Love the ones you love, love them fiercely Be good to each other, even when it’s hard Cause you never know, if you’ll get another go...you just never know Trembling leaves of aspen shimmer in the wind Golden Highway, Golden Highway Remembering you I pour a good cup of coffee and you’re right there next to me Golden, golden

You drive a blue ford pick up truck Feels like I hit a patch of luck And I don't wanna mess it up But I wanna tell you feels like I'm falling in love You came into my life like forgotten spring Surprise what a little warmth can bring And I know we both oughta take it slow Let's fall together like flakes of Appalachian snow Come on over darlin' You tell me life is long Will you be my boulder Steady, strong? You drive a blue ford pick up truck Feels like I hit a patch of luck And I don't wanna mess it up But I wanna tell you feels like I'm falling in love

Yellow Rose 03:03
I wanna be your lover for a long time If you’ll let me If I can play my cards right Such a sweet relief to be in your arms I was lost and searching But I could not find a line But now I’m staring into the blue I’m diving in deep with you Everything is new now Like the yellow rose in my heart Tell me what should I do With this lovely little pain I feel when we’re apart And yeah, you never really know where It’s going When it’s all so new But you hold your breath and you take a jump Hope it doesn’t Split you down in two Down the road We’ll see what’s comin’ down the road Everything is new now Like the yellow rose in my heart Tell me what should I do With this lovely little pain I feel when we’re apart Down the road Now we’re goin’ down the road Down the road We’ll see what’s coming down the road

about

In December 2020, during an already dark time, my life began to unravel to a point I couldn’t have foreseen. My wife left me suddenly, my grandmother died three days later, an important paternal figure in my life was murdered, and a dear friend died, possibly by suicide. After 4,000 nights with the love of my life I was alone and bereft of touch. I couldn’t even hug my best friend because of the pandemic.

Out of this time Marigolds grew nonetheless. It’s an album about the cyclical nature of change – of death and rebirth as initiation. After major losses, we are never the same, and we are asked by the universe to allow ourselves to die and to subsequently re-create a new version of ourselves. This album is a collection of songs that tells the stories of the ways I have personally been asked to let go.

Why “Marigolds”? They symbolize grief, jealousy, despair and mourning over lost love. They represent the strength that lives inside of a person. During this dark night of the soul, I couldn’t always see or remember my own strengths. People who loved me deeply responded with tenderness and compassion, holding the hope and vision of strength – of making it through to the other side. Each of these people, I consider marigolds –they assured me I would experience joy, happiness and the warmth of the full sun again. When I was a wandering and departed soul they shone their lights, so I could find my way back to the living. These songs are each marigolds too – bright lights held out to spirits passed so they may find me from the other side.

I offer them to your living hearts as well: offerings of hope. If you are in a dark night of the soul, I assure you the darkness is a tunnel and there is a way through. If you can’t see it, let me be your eyes. If nothing else, marigolds remind us of the fragility of life – the tenderness as well as the strength that resides within each and every one of us. Marigolds are symbolic of the resilience in our core, that allows us to weather any heartbreak, any betrayal, any storm, and also the fierce brightness and joy we can embody. We have the capacity to hold it all.
